My Story Part #2

It' Me Stanley Yelnats everybody!!! I'm back and redy to tell the second part of my story! Awesome!!

It's the second day and the second hole. I'm digging around and I find something. Earlier I was told that if I found anyting I would get the day off. I pick the rock up and find that it's a fossil. I look closer at it and find that there is a fish imprinted on the back. Later when the water truck came around I showed it to Mr.Pendanksi. He sayed he'd take a look at it, but he never came back. I was really angry at the fact that I did find something, but they didn't give me the day off. X-Ray came over a short while later and asked me to give the next thing that I found, because he had been there a year and never found anything, while I had only been there a couple of days. It seemed fair enough considering he seemed to be the leader of the group. But for some reason I couldn't figure out why he was. Out of the group he was the second shortest and I was the biggest, and disregarding those facts everyone treated him as if he was the highest authority in the camp.(even though the warden really was)

The next week went by, I was digging my hole when I saw something glint in the dirt pile. I tossed the dirt out of the way and ran my fingers through it. I picked up a small tube that was a gold colour as if it was made of gold.There was an engraving in the end of it. It had an outline of a heart with the initials KB. I thought this was my break but then I remembered my promise to X-Ray. ZigZag noticed I was holding something in my hand. He asked what it was, instead of telling him I went straight to X-Ray. X-Ray took it and looked at it, some of the other guys thought it was an old shotgun shell. I didn't mention the engraving though I thought they wouldn't notice it. After X-Ray looked at it, he said he was going to turn it in to "MOM" (Mr.Pendanksi's Knickname). But I quickly stopped him, I told him that instead of turning it in right now that he should turn it in first thing tommorrow as to save the whole day instead of just an hour this afternoon. He thought that was a good idea and followed my advice.

The next morning when the water truck came X-Ray showed Mr.Pendanski the gold tube. He said that the warden would like what he found. Shortly later Mr.Pendanski returned with the Warden. She told Mr.Pendanski to refill our canteens and move us over to X-rays hole, where we would make it bigger, much bigger. After the next few days we dug around X-Rays hole until it merged with several other of the holes.

Later on there was an accident. An accident concerning a bag of sunflower seeds and my hole. During a time when the water truck had come, Magnet had grabbed one of Mr.Sir's bags of sunflower seeds. He threw them from person to person, hole to hole. Until it was trown to me. I missed the catch and the sack spilled all over the floor of my hole. And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse. Mr.Sir returned in the water truck. He saw the sunflower seed bag in my hole and asked me "What happenned to all of my sunflower seeds?". I told him that I was the one had stolen and eaten them (to save the others from getting in trouble). He took me to the warden and told her about what had happened. In response she asked me to bring out a special makeup case. As she put on some nail polish she told her secret ingrediant to making it, and that ingrediant is rattlesnake venom. Mr.Sir continued to go on about his sunflower seeds and how he thought that the others were in on the stealing of the seeds. The warden seemed to not care for his sunflower seeds. For she hit him across the face and said " I liked you more when you used to smoke. I then had to return to my hole. On foot. -Stanley
